ARK Ascended GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini Settings

Put ASA settings in the correct file, adjust PvE, harvesting, taming and breeding, then validate without replacing the world.

ARK: Survival Ascended splits configuration across the command line, GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini. A setting in the wrong file or section is simply ignored. Work with the server stopped, change small batches and keep a copy before each one.

Locate and back up the files

On Windows, server files normally live at:

ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\GameUserSettings.ini
ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\Game.ini

Stop the server and copy these files together with ShooterGame/Saved/SavedArks/. If the provider offers a visual editor, check whether it rewrites INI files on startup; manual values controlled by the panel may be overwritten.

LocationSuitable settings
Command lineMap, port, ASA player limit, cluster and process options
GameUserSettings.iniSession, passwords, PvE/PvP, core multipliers and RCON
Game.iniProgression, levels, advanced breeding, engrams and detailed rules

Configure GameUserSettings.ini

Core options sit under [ServerSettings]. Adapt this conservative example:

[ServerSettings]
ServerPassword=
ServerAdminPassword=CHANGE_ME
ServerPVE=True
ShowMapPlayerLocation=True
AllowThirdPersonPlayer=True
XPMultiplier=1.0
TamingSpeedMultiplier=3.0
HarvestAmountMultiplier=2.0
DifficultyOffset=1.0

Do not duplicate session values already forced on the startup line. The wiki documents [SessionSettings] for name and port, but ASA requires -port=<port> at startup. For ASA slots, use the provider field or -WinLiveMaxPlayers=<number> rather than assuming the old ASE MaxPlayers key is sufficient.

Booleans use True/False, decimals use a period, and each option occupies one line. Start with moderate multipliers: extreme values can increase world, inventory and save growth.

Configure Game.ini

Advanced gameplay settings belong under this exact section:

[/Script/ShooterGame.ShooterGameMode]
BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=5.0
MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.5
EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=5.0
bAllowUnlimitedRespecs=True

These are examples, not universal balance. Test a real breeding cycle and the interaction of maturation, imprint and interval before opening publicly. Custom engrams, level curves and dino replacements create long lines; generate them from a current source and keep each change separately in version history so it can be removed.

Apply and validate without losing the save

1

Edit while stopped

Confirm the process is off, then edit as plain UTF-8 text. A live server may rewrite files during shutdown.
2

Change a small group

Group edits by theme, such as harvest and taming. Record the previous and new value for every line.
3

Start and read the log

Look for parsing errors and wait for world load. If ARK recreates an INI, compare its path and sections with the file you edited.
4

Test in-game

Check one harvest, XP gain, taming action and PvE/PvP state with a non-admin account. Admin abilities can distort the test.
5

Restart once more

Confirm values persist, the same world loads and the panel does not overwrite them. Archive the validated INI files.

If an option has no effect, check spelling, ASA rather than ASE support, section, file and duplicates. Do not delete the world to fix an INI. The ASA setup guide covers installation and ports.

Configure ARK Ascended from a panel

Compare ARK plans with an INI editor, backups and log access.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini?
GameUserSettings.ini mainly holds session settings and common multipliers. Game.ini contains advanced game-mode rules under [/Script/ShooterGame.ShooterGameMode].
Why does ARK erase my changes?
You may have edited while running, targeted client files, or changed a value managed by the panel. Stop, verify the WindowsServer path, use one source of truth and restart.
Does changing a multiplier require a wipe?
Most multipliers do not, although some effects apply only to new creatures or actions. Back up and test before using any global destruction command.
