How to Install Mods on a Hytale Server Without Losing Your World

Install a mod and check startup

1. Stop the server and back up universe/, which contains world and player data, along with config.json and your current mod list.
2. Download a mod version made for your Hytale version from its author or a platform mentioned by the manual, such as CurseForge. Read its dependencies and instructions; not every mod has the same settings.
3. Put the .zip or .jar in the server instance's mods/ directory, not in a world directory. With a host, confirm the root path used by its control panel.
4. Restart and read logs/. Join with an updated client, then test the feature in a test world before using the main one.

If startup fails, remove the most recently added mod and retry. If that does not help, restore the universe/ and configuration copies, then isolate mods one by one. The manual says client and server protocol versions must match exactly after an update; a failed connection may be a game-version issue even when mods are fine.

Updates and hosting choices

The official updater preserves mods and saves when replacing server files, but that does not guarantee each mod works on the new version. Before updating, follow the Hytale update guide, preserve a world copy and check mod versions.
