Create and Verify an SCP: Secret Laboratory Server

Install dedicated server app 996560, join it over UDP, and start verification only if you actually want the verified list.

A reachable SCP:SL server and a verified server are not the same thing. Northwood installs the tool with app 996560. The verified list is an uptime commitment, not a required step for a friends game.

What the install page actually requires

Their minimum, for a server full at 25 players with no plugins: 3 GB of RAM, 2 cores, 4 GB of disk. ARM CPUs are not supported. Windows 8.1 and 10 are the versions they name. Windows 11 is not officially supported. The page says it should still work. On Linux, the same page sets minimum distro versions and a package list. Follow that page rather than an old container recipe.

Windows prerequisites they name: SteamCMD, .NET Framework 4.8, Visual C++ 2015.

force_install_dir "C:\Users\<you>\Documents\SCPSL-Server"
login anonymous
app_update 996560 validate

The vanilla server already includes Northwood's framework, LabAPI. Betas use -beta on that command. Start LocalAdmin from the directory it shares with SCPSL.exe. On Linux the page uses cd into that directory, then ./LocalAdmin. The first launch asks for settings.

The port documented on their forwarding page is UDP 7777, not TCP. If LocalAdmin is set to another port, forward that one.

Copy the install directory and the config folder that appears under %AppData%\SCP Secret Laboratory before you edit generated files. Plugins and Remote Admin are the LabAPI guide.

Prove a player can join

The process stays up, a client outside your machine joins on the IP and UDP port, a round finishes, you stop cleanly and the server comes back. If it is not reachable from outside, verification will fail too. Northwood says that before the commands.

The gameplay file you need next is config_gameplay.txt. Fields they want filled before a review:

FieldRole
server_nameName on the list
serverinfo_pastebin_idText for the info tab
contact_emailAdd it yourself. Verification mail is sent from this address.
max_playersPlayer cap

Verify only if you want that list

Northwood's page is plain about it: the verified list is for servers that stay up nearly all the time and are building a community, not for a friends lobby. More than 14 consecutive days offline revokes the token. They advise against hosting a verified server at home because of denial-of-service risk. The bar on that page, which is not the install minimum: two physical cores, 4 GB of memory, 20 GB of disk. The server has to hold its cap without falling over. They also expect you to have read the latest CSG.

Public IPv4 only. No IPv6, and no verification by domain name.

In the console, while the server is online:

!verify static for a fixed address, !verify dynamic otherwise.

Their servers then try to connect. If that fails, fix UDP and the firewall before you email anyone. The other path is mail to safety.compliance@scpslgame.com, sent from the config's contact_email, with the IPv4, whether it is static or dynamic, and the port. The server has to stay online through the review, which can take up to a week.

verkey.txt in the server root holds the token. If it is missing, Northwood describes "IP already verified" while the list still says unverified. On a game host, that host reissues the file. At home, you write to the same team, from the same address, with IP, port and address type.

Game offers: SCP: Secret Laboratory comparison. This page does not claim a host verifies the server for you. Read what the panel says about verkey.

Run SCP:SL without forwarding UDP at home

Compare hosts that show LocalAdmin, the port and the config files.

Questions

Do friends need the server to be verified?
No. Northwood separates a reachable server from the verified list, which they reserve for communities with high uptime.
Is the port TCP?
The forwarding page asks for UDP, 7777 by default. TCP alone does not make the server joinable.
Is Windows 11 rejected?
The install page says it is not officially supported, and that it should work. ARM is excluded.
