Valheim world modifiers: raids, resources and portals

Turn the group's needs into a setting

For short sessions, discuss gathering and travel. For a building-focused world, discuss raid frequency. Avoid changing combat, death penalties and resource rates simultaneously, because you will lose track of which change altered the experience.

Some modifiers affect achievement eligibility. Check the warnings in your current game version and agree with the group before selecting a permissive preset.

Apply options in the correct order

In rented hosting, find the world modifier controls and retain a copy of current values. If you manage startup arguments, the official guide includes:

-modifier raids none
-modifier resources more
-modifier portals casual

These are example arguments, not a complete startup command. Preserve the remaining server parameters. A -preset overwrites preceding modifiers, so apply the preset before individual adjustments. Do not combine conflicting panel profiles and custom scripts without checking what actually launches.

Restart and verify the result

Stop cleanly, archive the world and configuration, then apply the change. After restarting, inspect effective startup settings in the panel or logs and test an observable rule such as portal travel.

Seeing no raid for a few minutes does not prove the setting worked: events also depend on game conditions. Check the applied value first and avoid using cheat commands to trigger tests on the main world.

Keep the configuration understandable

Document the chosen profile, date and reason. If the new difficulty does not suit the group, restore the previous settings during announced maintenance. Returning to old rates does not remove resources already collected. Restoring the entire world would also discard later progress.
